Aruvikkara By-Election
2015 schedule has been announced, the by-election was necessitated due to the
death of Congress MLA and late Speaker G Karthikeyan. The main parties in Kerala
are ruling Congress led UDF and CPM led LDF. A total of 16 candidates have
filed the nomination for Aruvikkara constituency which include one each from
INC, CPI[M], BJP, etc. and 6 independent candidates.

The main competition is
between Sabarinadhan K S of Congress and Vijayakumar M of CPI[M]. The interesting
fact is the list of independent candidates which include names like Sabarinath
M S, Vijayakumar
B and Vijayakumaran N. Everything is fair in love & war and elections
are no less than a war. Political parties leave no stones unturned to ensure their
candidate wins. It is believed that such nominations are done by political
parties to ensure they break the votes of their opposition party by confusing their
voters with similar appearing names. While some believe that these independent
candidates themselves file the nominations and later demand money from the
political parties to withdraw their nominations. Previous elections have witnessed
such drama where the nominations have been withdrawn on the last day. But this
time around the political parties seem confident about their winning and hence
have not paid any heed to such candidates. The last day of withdrawing nominations
was 13th June 2015 saw just one candidate withdrawing his nominations.
Now these candidates might be hoping that they somehow get their deposits back.
Another interesting fact
related to Aruvikkara election is that BJP has nominated its senior leader O
Rajagopal (the only known BJP face in Kerala) who had lost to Shashi Tharoor in
the recently conducted Lok Sabha elections 2014. BJP is trying hard to make some
way into the Kerala politics as it is the only state where they have miserably
failed to make an impact even under the strong leadership of Narendra Modi.
